Building A Bar

DRINK | SECURITY

There are many ways of building a bar but this is one that works for us.

A cage is constructed from scaffolding poles and Heras fencing. The fence panels are clamped together and the panels secured by padlocks and chains.

At the back and side woodchip panels form a wall to prevent slim wrists grabbing bottles. Scaffolding boards on scaffolding poles support the barrels.

At the front a wooden frame supports a long bench a metre high and 50cm deep. Banqueting roll is covered in clear plastic as a relatively hygienic surface and extends down to the ground. Behind this cover, bar staff have storage space and fridges. Don't forget to leave a gap or a hatch for access!

Consider also a rear hatch for delivery of barrels and bottles without disrupting serving from the bar.

1. The cage from behind, scaffolding poles as a frame, metal fence panels to fill in
2. The cage from the front, the framework of the bar itself in place
3. The shelves supporting the barrels in place at the back of the cage
4. The bar now covered in banqueting roll and clear plastic sheet, storage behind.

Consider also wooden pallettes to provide a firm foundation for your stock - and to keep carboard boxes away from damp ground.
