The Shelford Feast is a time for community celebration.
Local folks mingle amongst visitors, many of whom come back year after
year for the Feastival, the Feast and as a regular date for meeting
relatives and friends. The Grand marquee is our insurance in case of
showers but we've had good weather for virtually all of our modern Feasts.Anyway,
there are tables and chairs and you can shelter from the bright sunshine
with a drink!
We have live music on stage from midday to 6pm.
We
have high quality food in the food tent - 100% beefburgers, local sausages
and locally sourced pork, lamb and beef for our several spit roasts.
All are accompanied by bread rolls from the village and a good selection
of salads and sauces. Feast Day also features a vegetarian stall staffed
by our very own Shelford Delicatessen,
and Nicky and Drew will be glad to tell you about their Deli menu.
The beer tent dispenses an awesome variety of beers and other drinks.
See this year's beer list, depending on availabillity.)
Entry is by a programme (£1.50) which advertises local businesses
and gives a thorough run down of the reasons for holding our Feast -
and where our funds were spent last year. The programme also contains
a raffle ticket for the grand raffle draw. Additional tickets may be
bought for just 50 pence each.
Throughout the afternoon we eat and drink and make merry.

The
stalls around the recreation ground provide entertainment for all ages,
most of it at little cost. We have some small roundabouts and usually
a bouncy castle for young children, but we don't have expensive fairground
rides or commercial stalls. This is a traditional Feast where our main
aim is for you to enjoy yourselves - though we aim to raise money for
local good causes too.
The arena is the centre for our It's a Knockout Competition, where teams
compete to pull, jump, run, pour water over each other and generally
cause havoc for your entertainment! Why not get a team together? You
could take part in the famous Chariot Race - so good that our chariots
were used in a Channel 4 documentary!
So there's always something happening at the Shelford Feast - though
most people just take their time and sit around enjoying the sounds
sights and smells of a traditional village celebration.
Come along - and bring some friends!
